Why Music Schools are Better than In-Home Instruction

In-Home Music Lessons vs. Music School

In providing music lessons for your child, one of the first decisions you must make is whether to take lessons at home or at a music school. At first, music lessons at home may seem easiest, since the teacher comes to you. However, there’s so much more to this decision than transportation! In this blog, we explore the benefits of taking music lessons in a school.

Music Schools Ensure Quality and Safety

With home instruction, do you really know who you are inviting into your house? How do you really know if this teacher is a good fit for your child? Before hiring any teacher, of course, you will ask others about them and read their online reviews. But unfortunately, we all know that reviews sometimes are not the most reliable source.

In contrast, at Inspire Academy our teachers are interviewed and assessed by the director regarding their education, professional experiences and teaching methods. Further, they receive a thorough background check and are fingerprinted.

At Inspire Academy, parents are offered choices of learning environments so you can choose the best fit for your child, private or group lessons, along with which teacher best matches your child’s learning style

Music Schools Provide Consistency

Consistency is a crucial part of quality music lessons. At Inspire Academy, we have an office manager that handles all the scheduling for students and teachers. If you have more than one child taking classes, whenever possible we provide lessons at the same time. We provide make-up lessons for missed lessons as well as substitute teachers when your teacher is unavailable. These policies ensure a focused, high quality music education with no interruptions, for either student or teacher.

At Inspire, You Belong to a Community

There is an excitement and energy when students come to Inspire Academy to learn

Taking lessons at home is a solitary activity. It also can be full of distractions – brothers and sisters, pets, sports, and of course screens of all sorts, from smartphones to tablets and TVs.

At Inspire Academy, we understand that home is where we live and school is where we learn! There is an excitement and energy when students come to our school to learn.

At Inspire students learn alongside other students, hear other instruments, and make new friendships that last a lifetime. We provide many opportunities to keep your child engaged and growing in music; from our recitals to our medal advancement program where they can see their musical progress marked in ribbons and medals.

The Invaluable Opportunity to Perform

At Inspire Academy, we provide many performance opportunities for your child, each an opportunity to build character, mastery and self-confidence. These range from recitals in informal venues as well as formal professional performing arts venues, to the Certificate of Merit and Royal Conservatory Achievement Programs, where students perform and receive feedback from certified music professionals.

The reward of learning and practice is to share our musical expressions through performance! Unfortunately, this isn’t an option with home instruction.

Achieving goals is an essential part of music development and that is why this spring we have launched our first internal Piano Competition for our students.

Learning to make music and developing the skills needed to perform in professional settings provide your child enjoyment while equipping them with skills they will use their whole life. Taking music lessons in your home, though convenient, in the end limits these opportunities for your child.  I encourage you to come and explore lessons at Inspire Music Academy and see what music possibilities lie within your child!
